JOKARI PADDLES ( CLICK

The majority of the information on this page comes from weehawk95 , a site devoted to the Jokari game and not to the other uses to which Jokari paddles may be put ! Spankoz is interested in purchasing older examples for our MUSEUM . Occasionally we have surplus Jokari paddles for sale . Being Jokaried is an unique experience ! GOOD NEWS ! Hi there,
You may already know this but I
thought I would share it with you just in case. Just out of curiosity I called
Jokari to see if the had any paddle ball games available. To my surprise they
are re-releasing the original set in mid July 2002. I was able to place an
order for the set it cost me 24.95 and I should have it for sure by the first
week in August. Thought you might like to know that. I can't wait to play
again. The last time I played I was 15, I am know 34.
Have a great day,
J. K.
The later shape paddles are an ideal shape for use in spanking , either in leather or wood . They are rugged and only require to occasional drop of polish ( be careful near the rubber grip ) to stop the timber from drying out . Store in a dry place . Holes may be drilled to increase effectiveness . One of these earlier models produced this result :
In the Basque region of France and Spain games evolved played on large courts using paddles or other implements to propel a ball toward a front wall back to the players who took turns returning the ball until a player missed and lost the point. Sometimes called Pelota Vasca, these games are the ancestors of Frontenis and Jai-alai as they are played in the Americas. At least as early as the late 1940's or
early 1950's a game was marketed in the USA under the name Jokari. This was a
further offshoot of these type of paddle-and-ball games, but instead of using a
court, the ball is attached to an elastic cord which returns it to the playing
area after being hit by the player with his/her paddle. This game was sold in
various forms in this country until the 1980's. The company still exists,
importing other products, but no longer produces this game.
This may be the oldest Jokari set I have encountered. It certainly looks oldest, but that could be misleading. It is of French manufacture. It seems unlikely that it would pre-date WW II, so perhaps late '40's? The paddles are marked: "Eskual Jokari" which means basically "Basque Jokari". Also "La Pelote Basque sans Fronton" which translates to "The Basque ballgame without the court". "Brevete S.G.D.C." I believe is French patent notice. Likewise "Jeu et Marque deposes" I believe is some sort of trademark notice.
The following photos are of a Jokari set endorsed by Pauline Betz. She won tennis's US Open in 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1946. In 1946 she also won Wimbledon, that Championship not having been played from 1940 through 1945 due to World War II. I therefore surmise that this set was sold in the late 1940's or early 1950's
![]() Next, a very similar set, but instead of red printing on a natural finish, the printing is blue and the paddles are painted a bronze color. I do not have the original box for this set. Intuition tells me this set came shortly after the one with the red printing, but it could be the other way around.
![]() This set is similar to the previous two, but the paddles have images painted or decoupaged on them which mimic strung rackets with wrapped grips. ![]() These are photos of two different sets of "Jokari Junior", made with somewhat smaller equipment for the use of children. These are apparently from the same era as the previous full-size sets. Note one of them refers to the game as "Cable Tennis". Click here to see the instructions.
![]() This set is probably from the 1960's. It says "Made in France" and points out that the name is pronounced yo-kå'-ree. The card inside explains that the name comes from Basque games in which the server shouts "Jo" meaning that he is ready to serve, and the receiver replies "Kari" meaning he is ready to receive. Click here to see the card . ![]() This set is from Scotland, but I don't have much clue where or when it was manufactured.
![]() This is a modern set, circa 1975 Click here to see the instructions . ![]() Another very similar set, circa 1977 ![]() This is a more upscale set, also circa 1975. Note the leather-wrapped handles. It is endorsed by soccer player Kyle Rote Jr. (He also won television's "Superstars" competition in 1976. His father was a star football player at SMU and later the New York Giants) Click here to see the instructions .
![]() Somewhere along the line Sportcraft, a major supplier of home recreational products, got into the act. They distributed this set - I'm guessing in the 70's but no date appears on the box or the instructions. ![]() And apparently at some point they were in league with Gatorade: As far as I know, this is the latest version made. Same paddles as before, just different graphics on the box. Probably from the early 1980's. ![]() Finally, a view of all the different Jokari paddles that I have, so that one may see the relative sizes. From left to right: The "Official" set paddle from the 50's,the "Pauline Betz" set paddle from the 50's, the Jokari Junior paddle, the 60's French made paddle, the 70's "Champ Model" paddle and the 70's "Kyle Rote Jr." paddle. ![]() This is a close up of one of the later rubber handle grips which have a habit of becoming loose with use and age . This can be fixed by gluing to the wooden handle or replacing with tape as is used on tennis racquet handles . Also by Jokari:During the racquetball boom of the late '70's and early '80's Jokari sold a device called Racquetball without the Walls. This was basically a Jokari-type base
with an elastic tether attached to a racquetball. One used a racquetball racquet
and played with it much like Jokari, for training purposes.
Correspondence:A gentleman named David Tilley wrote me informing me that his family had been involved in the manufacture of the game in South Africa in the '50's. Click here
to read his emails to me.
Wanted:Jokari-USA also sold a game in the late
70's called "Hot
Tennis", sort of an indoor miniature version of Badminton using Jokari-like
paddles. If anyone out there has a set, I would be interested in purchasing it.
E-mail me at weehawk@ix.netcom.com
Links:The only other site I have found on the web pertaining to this game is at : http://www.primghar.com/jokari/index.html Jokari Inc. no longer sells the game, but imports other products. But new versions imported from France
can be bought here. ![]() And a copycat game called "Fly
Ball" can be purchased
here.

Greetings from England.
" The Game That Won World Fame " ............. A popular BBC television series at the time was 'Whacko' starring Jimmy Edwards as a somewhat crazy public school master. In one episode a new boy was introduced who came from India with the title 'Prince of Jokari'. The name kept on being repeated throughout the show and father sent Jimmy Edwards a deluxe set, thanking him for the free advertising. He received a kindly acknowledgement but Mr Edwards confessed to never having heard of the game beforehand.
First,
I'd like to say thank you for posting the information and pictures on
jokari history.
I'm
a BDSM lifestyle Dominant, that knows a good paddle when he see one... I
have a good friend of mine that is also into collecting jokari and
marcraft paddles... as I do.
I
came across a set on ebay recently, and it was so unusual for two
reasons.. one, the shape of the handle, and two it has some type of YMCA
endorsement.. I'll enclose a picture for you.

I’ve finally found a spanking toy Dan can use to not only make my
bottom red, but plenty sore as well. Yes, my bottom has reached a new
stage in greediness and soreness.
I don’t know why, but when I saw those paddles, I just had to have them.
They’re heavy, thick, and even have a nice rubberized handle for Dan’s
comfort. I wasn’t concerned with my comfort at all. I saw those
lovely wooden paddles, my bottom started to tingle, and all was lost.
As soon as I handed them over to Dan, he got a gleam in his eyes.
They’re hefty things and he liked the way they felt in his hands. He
immediately ordered me over the arm of the sofa to settle up my latest earned
spanks.
You see, I was a little under the weather the other day and I managed to
rack up about 35 spanks for saying “Unh-uh!” I’ve really got to
quit saying that!
He began spanking me lightly all over my bottom, making me moan and wiggle my
bottom in approval. Light spanks are never enough for him though so he reached
down and grabbed the Jokari
paddle. It was the handiest of the toys which made it the most appropriate at
that moment. Besides, Dan says he approves of that paddle because he barely
has to swing it to get a reaction out of me.
Dan started with light spanks but even light spanks with the Jokari
paddle sting and burn a bit. He knows what I like though so he alternated the paddle
with hand spanks. The paddle gave me the intensity I like but by using
his hand every once in a while, he kept it from getting too intense. He’d
give me a few stinging swats with the paddle to take me higher and then back
the intensity down with softer hand spanks.
..............
( Comment ) Hehehe…Jokari
is EVIL! I bought one off of eBay in a fit of that “spankino
greediness.” I was home alone when it came, and when I took it out of the
box, I thought, “What have I done?!?!” Nick loves the “kung fu
grip”, and it’s his favorite paddle for discipline. Not so much mine.
